Billboards

I hate the thought of billboard advertising. I just wonder how many accidents they create every year. They are always placed in the worst areas. Everyone is driving by too fast to even know what they said. I just think they are a poor design of advertising. Yes they are used less frequently but every now and again you see one but they are just for some silly thing like good ole tom's that you can really care less about. Most of the time I only get to read half of the ad before flying by it. To be honest I could really care less about them. What does everyone else think about this? Do you ever get to finish reading them? Have you almost crashed while trying to read them?

  1. I agree and disagree.I agree in the sense that billboard advertising may not be the BEST way to capture the attention of the consumers. However, I do not think they they are a poor way to go about advertising. I think the key is to use pictures and imagery on billboards, maybe even a symbol or logo, as opposed to actual words. The purpose of billboard advertising is to just capture the consumers attention just long enough to plant a seed, or a lasting impression, even if at a subconscious level. I'd agree strongly that minimal words should be used on billboards. I'd be curious to see how many people have crashed as a result of reading a billboard. It probably happens more than we think.

  2. I agree with what you are saying to some extent as well, I believe sometimes that you don't have enough time to fully capture the whole meaning behind the billboard but some billboards are quick and straight to the point and you are able to capture the meaning of the billboard in the few seconds you have while driving by

  3. I agree that at some points they can be hazardous to drivers but I feel that they get the point across. If you are going past a billboard that has small writing then that can be dangerous because you're attempting to read it all in a quick instance. It seems like most of the ones that I see are very large and have limited writing so all you need to do is take a quick glance. It's a cheap way for companies to advertise because you are getting a large audience.

  4. Its funny that you mention this because I was just thinking about this too. I for one have caught myself losing focus on the road because of billboard signs. However, as bad as that may sound, i think they get their point across, theyre big and in your face, it generates awareness. But i also think theyre not effective in some ways too, youre on the road driving at a significant speed, how much information are you really going to retain? My position on billboard advertising is 50/50.
