So I was reading an article how the advertising of Ronald McDonald maybe just like advertising Joe Camel for smoking. Some of the people who think obesity is just as bad as cigarettes are wanting McDonalds to stop showing Ronald in some of their worst products. I was just thinking what you guys think should they make it illegal for fast food industries to use friendly advertisement characters? I myself think they should not try and claim the younger consumers but should only be allowed to advertise towards older consumers who may know better. If you want to take a look at the article here is the link.

I really feel that the responsibility is in the hands of the parents when dealing with the younger crowd. Adults know that fast food is bad for you and they have the logic to make the right decisions. I feel whether you have friendly characters or not in your ads, the final say still comes from the adults who are providing the fast food to the children.
ReplyDeleteI think that having a friendly advertisement character is acceptable for McDonald's. They should be allowed to use whatever type of advertising tactic that they want. In the end it is the consumers decision whether or not they want to eat there. McDonald's should not be held responsible for the overall obesity epidemic in the United States.
ReplyDeleteI think its up to the parents to reflect what products is appropriate for the child. I think those cartoon characters put parents in a situation because the kids usually want the product because of the character. However, in the end parents make the choice and thats why maybe we hear so many crying children in grocery stores
ReplyDeleteI feel it is completely normal and acceptable for McDonald's to use a kid friendly cartoon character such as Ronald McDonald's because the children can't go to McDonald's on their own and buy their food, their parents take them and allow it.
