Advertising Class post

So what did everyone think about the commercials? I personally thought they were decent this year. Not as good as past years but they were pretty funny. My favorite commercial was the E-Trade one where the baby was talking to a new dad about the benefits of E-Trade. Then at the end of the commercial he sees his friend and is like what are you doing here and the baby said speed dating. I just that was so hilarious. I think that all of those E-Trade commercials were easy the baby is hilarious in all of them. I think that they do a great job in explaining what the company is and what they do. What does everyone else think? Let  me know.

  1. I always like the E*Trade commercials with the baby. They're always really clever. My favorite was the Skechers ad, for reasons explained in class. I was amazed at how many ads featured dogs.

  2. I thought the E*Trade commercial was very good in the fact that it was memorable and that it explained what the company was all about. I liked the Matthew Broderick Honda CR-V commercial because they were able to relate it to a very famous movie that everyone knows and they made the CR-V relate to the movie by being the equivalent of the Ferrari. In doing this, Honda was trying to show that in buying the CR-V, it will make you feel like you have a Ferrari, which in my opinion was a very good strategy.

  3. I believe the ads with the babies and dogs were the most popular among everyone because it grabs people interests the most. I also agree that the commercials this year were not as strong as they were in the past years because the companies did not focus on selling their product to the audience enough.

    1. I feel like these companies don't always need to focus on selling their product to consumers, even though that is what they should be doing. In this instance, people watch these commercials because they want to be entertained and they want to laugh. These companies have to deliver something they think will get people talking or laughing. The CR-V commercial I thought was good because they subliminally sold car by having a commercial that was nostalgic for their market. They aren't trying to sell a CR-V to younger consumers, its targeted towards those who will remember Ferris Bueller's Day off. In regards to the Super Bowl, I think companies that can put out a funny or edgy commercial while still sneaking in a sales aspect were the most successful.

  4. I agree that E Trade did a good job creating a funny commercial but they were also successful with getting the point across that it was an E Trade commercial. Anyone can make a great commercial but remembering it later and remembering who's commercial it was is just as important.

  5. I thought the commercials were okay, they didn't blow your mind or anything but some are memorable. I enjoyed the E-trade, they are always have funny commercials. However, I thought the Volkswagon Bug commercial was good and funny, how the dog tried to lose weight to chase the VW Bug. Dorritos I thought were kinda lame compared to past advertisements...

  6. Compared to previous years, I think this years commercials weren't as great. There were some funny ones but not as good as I thought they would be for 3.3 million dollars for 30 seconds. I think the Chrysler commercial was most effective because it was more of a statement than a commercial. It basically said that it may look like America is down but we always get back up

  7. For the past few years I believe that they have gone down hill, I think there are some good creative commercials that are coming out, but most of them are so over the top they just don't work. Also I believe that its now kind of a tradition to watch the ads, and people expect too much from them now.

  8. I think the E-trade commercials are great. They are usually very funny but at the same time they always get a great point across. The fact that they always get a point across is great from a business standpoint and the fact that they are funny makes sure that the viewer easily remembers both the ad and the company.
